It’s easy to look at someone running a successful business and assume they’ve always had it figured out — but that’s rarely the case. Behind every hooklift truck and company logo, there’s a story of risk, reinvention, and grit. That’s exactly what makes Joe Wormworth’s journey so worth telling.
Just a few weeks ago, Joe was wrapping up a decade-long career as a nuclear engineer. For ten years, he worked at a power plant, leading teams and keeping critical systems running. But like a lot of folks, he started to wonder what life could look like if he took a different path — one where he was calling the shots and building something of his own.
So he made the jump.
Joe and his wife launched Roots Roll-Off Professionals, a dumpster rental company based in New York. At first, it was just a trailer and 14 cans. That was two weeks before we met him. By the time he reached out to us, 12 of those 14 dumpsters were already out on rental — and he knew he needed to scale up fast if he wanted to keep the momentum going.
That’s where we came in.
Joe called us at Quality Truck & Equipment looking for a serious upgrade. We walked him through the shop, showed him what we had, and by the end of the visit, we had him fully set up with a Peterbilt 536 hooklift truck — ready to work and built for the long haul. No gimmicks, no pressure. Just one business owner helping another get the tools they need to grow.
If you haven’t seen the video yet, you can check it out here. It’s a quick walkthrough of what it’s like to pick up a truck from our shop — and it gives you a real look at who Joe is, what he’s building, and how we helped him take the next step.
His story isn’t unique — and that’s the best part.
Across the country, people are leaving long-standing careers and launching dumpster rental businesses from the ground up. The industry is growing fast, thanks to rising demand from residential clean-outs, commercial renovations, and jobsite construction debris. If you’ve been thinking about switching paths, this could be the perfect time to do it.
What Joe shows us is that you don’t need years of industry experience to get started. You just need drive, a plan, and the right equipment partner behind you.
If you’re in that early stage and wondering where to begin, check out this guide to getting started in waste hauling. It covers everything from permits to pricing, and it’s a great resource for first-time owners.
But if you’re ready to take the next step — whether it’s your first truck, an upgrade to a hooklift, or just some help thinking through your options — give us a call. We’re not just selling trucks. We’re helping people build their next chapter.
Just like Joe.
